| Carlsbad's Calavera Hills |
Calavara Hills is a large neighborhood in Carlsbad located just south of Palomar Airport Road and west of Rancho Santa Fe Road. It has communities of condos, townhomes and single-family houses. Calavera Hills is actually a master-planned community and was originally planned in 1974 by the Carlsbad Planning Commission and has slowly taken shape over the years. The western portion of Calavera Hills was constructed mostly in the 1980s and the eastern portion was completed in the mid-2000s. Phase II plans are still underway.
Calavera Hills features numerous parks and trails, the Calavera nature preserve, an artificial lake, two elementary and one middle school, summertime jazz concerts and year-round activities and sports. It is subdivided into four neighborhoods (Barrington, Capistrano, Nantucket and Sheffield), each of which are maintained by a homeowners' association. |
